Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She's also an accomplished public speaking. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site which features video and posts discussing the depictions of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which explores the representations of females in narratives from popular culture. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture, she is a vocal advocate for issues relating to harassment targeted at women as well as other classes of individuals in the internet space. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in the field of Social and Political Thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a popular public speaking. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. At a young age Sarkeesian was captivated by issues of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. She was a young woman who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet which would explore gender roles in games. However, she became the target of cyber-bullying. But the assault did have been a hindrance, rather it was a boost to her determination as a feminist critic of media. She is a recipient of numerous awards for her contribution to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency which is an educational non-profit that examines the ways women are depicted within popular culture narratives.
