Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarship for his family and service to the community. The first is his familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids in a Eufala farm. Another reason for his football career was that Selmon is the youngest of three brothers to play for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy was named the top offensive lineman in nation by the Outland and Lombardi Awards. During his three-year tenure as the Oklahoma's quarterback of choice, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and captured two national titles. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a bachelor's degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Fourth-year service in the university Lee Roy devoted ten hours every week for volunteer activities. After college, he moved to Tampa and played nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro 3 times. Then he started his professional career. In 1988, he was working as an Account Relations Officer for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him in 1982 as being among the top 10 youths of the United States. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing 256 pounds. He was captain of his college team in the year 1975. He joined at the University of South Florida as associate director of athletics. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame through the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989 The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
